Apple announces their iPad, an ebook app, using epub, called iBooks. With the support of major book publishers the new iBooks bookstores will compete with Amazon: "We think the iPad is going to make a terrific e-book reader," Jobs said. "Not just for popular books but textbooks as well."
Missing from the announcment was the issue of digital rights management.
